【Who would be my guide?】
The story of 19-year-old Ho-cheung probably unfolds the most typical experience of youths living on the margins.
He had no idea about his life. Lacking the care from a mother, he was brought up by his grandma, who had dementia. His short-tempered father was a nighttime truck driver. Ho-cheung was bored by the life in the compressed public estate. He began to flee from his father, whom he hated a lot. He ran away from school and spent most time on playing TV games, singing in karaoke, sleeping and idling. When he needed money, he would try to steal a mobile phone, which was the easiest thing to steal and resell in market. He then became an active to boys' homes and correctional institution. Many a time he was deprived of freedom, but these made no difference to him. Perhaps he was too ignorant to set his goals in life; he did not know he had choices. He was lost. He was trapped in the material world. While serving his term of imprisonment, he grew up, and the seemingly endless and ascetic life in the correctional institution allowed him time to reflect himself. He finally managed to do something aboveboard. It was the kitchen which gave him satisfaction. It was the kitchen where he could develop his ability and gain recognition. Ho-cheung is going to be free soon. Now he only has his old grandma on his mind. Has he set up his goals in life?

Man-ki Lau, 41-year-old, was charged with arson and assault and was sentenced to a 12-year imprisonment. He would be released at the end of May in 2006. Ki was an introvert. He seldom spoke. He never expressed his feelings, the only one he would pour his trouble to is MoMo, his dog.
The case happened on the day when MoMo was killed in a traffic accident, which depressed Ki a lot. A member of a triad society came to collect protection money. Ki lost control and vented his grief and anger on that man. His emotions, which had been suppressed for more than 30 years, led to a disastrous mistake. After the sentence, Ki suffered from serious depression. He had a tendency to kill and hurt himself, and was sent to Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre. For 2 years, he refused to talk to others and turned against everyone around. He could not accept the truth that he had set fire on a person, and ascribed the blame to others. K.S. Lee, a clinical psychologist of the Correctional Services Department, considered Ki's story a tragedy, which took place because he failed to deal with his emotions. She believed that Ki had had no intent to commit such a crime. While Ki received psychological treatment together with similar violent criminal offenders in prison, he found out the reason behind his mistake - that he was not born to be violent, but that he had been oversuppressing his emotions. The only way to help Ki to live a new life is to unlock the secrets of his heart. Now Ki, who was expecting his release from prison, became much more sanguine and optimistic. He said it was now the happiest time he had ever had. To many others, imprisonment may means a blemish in life, but Ki considered it a bridge to maturity, though he had paid a high price.

Yan's parents divorced when she was a small child, and she used to live with her father and her elder brother. Having left school after Form 2, she made friends with the wrong people. She idled away her time without work, and had been sent to girls' home and rehabilitation centre six times.
Yan was aware of the fact that she came from a broken family. Her father was always busy with work and was unable to express himself, thinking that beating a child was teaching him or her. Yan failed to feel the care from her family, and she always tried her best to develop friendship with others. She enjoyed being a leader to take care of others, which indirectly led herself to trouble... Having left the rehabilitation centre, Yan indulged herself and lived on stealing, and soon she was sent back to the centre. Although this was not the first time she went there, this time it was different. Her father, who had never given her up, paid no visit to her and refused to let her home upon her release. And her close friends abandoned her. She began to feel that she was alone. She knew that she had to be on her own in the future. She started wondering what she could do. A few days before the release, a piece of good news came and saved Yan, who had been feeling hopeless. An officer from the Correctional Services Department acted as a go-between and Yan's mother, who had lived separately, expressed her wish to take her daughter home, allowing Yan a chance to live a new life.
