Correctional Services officers stopped a person in custody assaulting another person in custody at Tai Lam Correctional Institution yesterday (October 7).
At 7.42pm, two male persons in custody had a dispute inside the dormitory in which a 49-year-old person in custody attacked a 60-year-old person in custody with ballpoint pens. The staff on duty immediately shouted for the assault to stop and called for reinforcements.
The reinforcement staff arrived at the scene and sent the two men to the centre hospital for medical treatment. The victim sustained injuries to his head and back. After consultation by the medical officer, he was transferred to a public hospital for further examination and treatment. The assailant sustained minor injuries. He did not require to be sent to public hospital after being treated by the medical officer.
The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.
The assailant was sentenced for the offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and trafficking in a dangerous drug, while the victim was sentenced for the offence of possession of an obscene article for the purpose of publication.
