Stanley Prison inmate assaults Correctional Services officer

     A male inmate assaulted a correctional officer in Stanley Prison today (October 4).

     At about 3.10pm, the 47-year-old inmate quarrelled with another inmate inside a workshop. The officer at the scene immediately stopped them. The inmate, however, suddenly became emotionally unstable and attacked the officer with a ball pen. Reinforcement staff arrived and tried to stop him with warnings but to no avail. They subsequently subdued the inmate by using OC foam.

     Both the correctional officer and the assailant sustained injuries. They were treated in the centre hospital and subsequently transferred to public hospitals for further treatment. The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     The assailant was sentenced for the offence of murder.
