Correctional officers seized a quantity of suspected dangerous drugs from a male remand inmate at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (November 23).
The 44-year-old remand inmate underwent X-ray body scanning on his admission to the centre yesterday and was suspected to have swallowed dangerous drugs.
Until about 7.15pm today, the remand inmate was found to have discharged 21 small packs of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheet. The inmate was remanded for an offence of theft.
The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.
A spokesperson for the department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."
There have been 86 seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year. Most of the seizures were made in reception centres.
