A correctional officer correctly detected a male visitor for possession of suspected dangerous drugs in the visit room of Hei Ling Chau Addiction Treatment Centre today (December 24).
At about 11.10am the correctional officer noted that a 25-year-old male visitor was acting suspiciously when visiting a person in custody and suspected that he was in possession of dangerous drugs. The case was immediately reported to the Police. Police officers arrived at the scene and seized a small quantity of suspected dangerous drugs from the visitor. He was arrested for possession of dangerous drugs and was taken to a police station for further investigation.
A spokesperson for the department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."
There have been 94 seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year. Most of the seizures were made in reception centres.
