Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

      Correctional officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre intercepted a quantity of suspected dangerous drugs concealed inside the body of a remand person in custody today (January 25).

      Upon admission to the institution yesterday, the 52-year-old male remand person in custody underwent X-ray body scanning and was suspected to have swallowed dangerous drugs. Therefore a close monitor was rendered.

      By about 10.10am today, the remand person in custody was found to have discharged six small packs of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheet. He was remanded for an offence of trafficking of dangerous drugs.

      The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

      A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

      There have been 15 seizures of dangerous drugs by correctional officers to date this year.
