Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into institution

Correctional officers at Tai Lam Centre for Women successfully intercepted suspected dangerous drugs which were concealed inside the body of a female person in custody today (February 20).

Upon admission to the institution two days ago, correctional officers suspected that the 61-year-old female person in custody had swallowed some drugs, and hence put her under close monitoring. Until around 12.15pm today, she had discharged a total of five small packs of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheet. The woman was recalled due to the breach of a supervision order and was remanded for an offence of possession of dangerous drugs and trafficking in dangerous drugs.

The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

A spokesperson for the department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

There have been 18 seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year.
