Correctional officers in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre stopped a remand person in custody from assaulting the staff today (March 20).
At about 5.30pm, the 43-year-old male remand person in custody suddenly turned emotional after he had gone through security check and attacked one of the officers at scene. Another officer tried to stop him immediately but encountered strong resistance. In order to prevent him from hurting himself and others, OC foam was eventually applied to subdue him.
Both the officer and the person in custody sustained minor injuries in arm and face respectively and were treated in centre hospital. They were discharged after treatment. The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.
The person in custody was remanded for an offence of possession in dangerous drugs.
