Correctional Services officers stopped a person in custody from assaulting other persons in custody in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (May 7).
At 10.43am, a 34-year-old male person in custody became emotionally unstable and attacked another 36-year-old male remand person in custody inside the centre hospital. Two officers on duty immediately separated the two and called for reinforcement. During the time, the assailant turned to attack two other male persons in custody, aged 40 and 43. Officers at scene eventually subdued the assailant to prevent him from hurting others. During the scuffle, an officer sustained minor injury on his chest.
The assailant, three victims and the officer were arranged to receive treatment in the centre hospital. The assailant, one of the victims and the officer were later transferred to a public hospital for further examination. The assailant was admitted for observation, while the two other persons were treated and discharged.
The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.
The assailant and the three victims were sentenced or remanded for offences of theft.
