Correctional officers stopped a recall person who had breached supervision order from hurting himself at Pik Uk Correctional Institution today (June 2).
At 4.32am, a patrolling officer found the 15-year-old male recall person lying on the floor inside a ward of the centre hospital. Upon questioning, the recall person alleged that he had swallowed two mouthfuls of liquid soap. The officer immediately called reinforcement to the scene and provided medical treatment to him. He was found conscious at the time.
The medical officer then arranged the recall person to stay in the centre hospital for further observation and treatment. A clinical psychologist of the department will follow up on the case.
A spokesman for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department uses all possible measures to prevent people in its custody from attempting suicide or self-harm. These measures include administrative arrangements, the improvement of institution facilities, staff training and first aid services."
The person was recalled for breaching an order to return to the half-way house as soon as possible after leaving work.
