A person in custody in Stanley Prison died in a public hospital today (June 12).
The 44-year-old male person in custody was suffering from diabetes mellitus and required regular follow-up by the medical officer in the institution. At about 11.52am, he felt unwell during work and collapsed. He was immediately examined and treated by the institutional medical officer and was subsequently referred to a public hospital for immediate rescue. He was certified dead at 1.01pm.
The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
The person in custody was sentenced to imprisonment for trafficking in dangerous drugs.
