Correctional officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (June 14) successfully intercepted suspected dangerous drugs which were concealed inside the body of a remand person in custody.
Upon admission to the institution yesterday, the 52-year-old male remand person in custody underwent X-ray body scanning and was suspected to have swallowed some drugs. He was therefore put under close monitoring.
Until 9.25am today, he discharged six pellets of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheet. The man was remanded for an offence of possession of dangerous drugs.
The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.
A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."
There have been 48 seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year.
