Correctional officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (September 24) successfully intercepted suspected dangerous drugs which were concealed inside the body of a male remand person in custody.
Upon admission to the reception centre on September 22, the 39-year-old remand person in custody underwent X-ray body scanning and was suspected to have swallowed some dangerous drugs. He was therefore put under close monitoring.
As at 10.25am today, he had discharged six packs of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheet. The man was remanded for an offence of possession of dangerous drugs.
The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.
A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline as well as maintain a drug-free environment for all persons in its custody."
