Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

     Correctional officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre over the past few days intercepted the smuggling of a total of 31 pellets of suspected dangerous drugs concealed inside the body of a male remand person in custody.

     The 39-year-old male remand person in custody, who was put under close monitoring by correctional officers, had discharged 14 pellets of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheets in the past three days. Up to 9pm today (November 15), he discharged 17 more pellets of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheets. The man was remanded for the offence of possession of dangerous drugs.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."
