Correctional officers stopped five male remand persons in custody from assaulting another remand person in custody at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre yesterday (January 22).
At about 5.31pm, a 29-year-old remand person in custody was attacked by another five remand persons in custody inside the dayroom. On-duty officers immediately stopped the assault and called for reinforcements.
Upon the arrival of reinforcement staff, the victim was escorted to the centre hospital for examination and treatment. He was subsequently transferred to a public hospital for further examination. The assailants were examined in the centre hospital. They sustained no injuries except two of them hurt their hands during the incident.
The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.
The five assailants were remanded for the offences of wounding with intent, robbery, possession of dangerous drugs and handling stolen goods, while the victim was remanded for the offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs.
