A male remand person in custody felt dizzy and fell on the floor at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre last night (April 25). He was taken to a public hospital where he died afterwards.
The 45-year-old person in custody was newly admitted to the Reception Centre on April 24 for the offence of trafficking in a dangerous drug. Since he had a habit of taking dangerous drugs for a long period of time, he was arranged to stay at the centre hospital for observation and treatment.
At 9.16pm yesterday, he suddenly fell on the floor in the centre hospital. The institutional healthcare staff immediately examined and treated him. He was conscious at the time and was subsequently transferred by ambulance to a public hospital for treatment. Later his condition deteriorated and was certified dead at 10.58pm.
The Correctional Services Department has reported the case to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
