Two correctional officers were assaulted by a non-local female remand person in custody at Tai Lam Centre for Women yesterday (June 6).
At 11.16am, while two correctional officers were arranging for the 27-year-old remand person in custody to go back to her cell after shower, the remand person in custody suddenly turned emotionally unstable and attacked the officers. An officer immediately called for reinforcement. OC foam was subsequently used to subdue her after repeated warnings were in vain.
The remand person in custody and related officers were arranged to receive medical examination and treatement in the centre hospital. The remand person in custody and a staff member sustained minor injuries. After examination by medical officers, they need not be sent to outside hospital.
The Correctional Services Department has reported the case to the Police for investigation.
The person in custody was remanded for the offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
