A 26-year-old male remand person in custody attacked correctional staff at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (July 2) afternoon.
At 2.29pm, the remand person in custody suddenly turned emotional and attacked correctional officers during reception procedures. Staff at the scene at once tried to stop him. They subdued the person in custody by using OC foam after warnings were in vain.
In the incident, seven correctional officers and the assailant sustained injuries and were examined and treated in the centre's hospital. Two of the correctional officers sustained eye and chest injuries respectively and were referred to public hospital for further treatment, while the assailant and the other officers were not required to be referred to public hospital.
The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.
The assailant was serving sentence for the offence of theft.
