Correctional officers stop assault by person in custody

     Correctional officers stopped an assault by a person in custody against another person in Lo Wu Correctional Institution today (August 19).

     At 9.14am, a 36-year-old female person in custody suddenly attacked another 34-year-old female person in custody while proceeding to a workshop. The officers at scene immediately stopped the assault and removed the assailant from the scene. However, the assailant turned emotional and OC foam was used to subdue her after warnings were given in vain.

     The victim sustained injuries to her head and arm. After consultation by a medical officer at the centre hospital, she was transferred to a public hospital for further examination and treatment. The assailant sustained minor injuries and was treated at the centre hospital.

     The assault by the person in custody has been reported to the Police.

     The assailant was sentenced for the offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs and the victim was sentenced for the offence of theft.
