Person in custody attacks correctional staff at Lo Wu Correctional Institution

     A 44-year-old female person in custody attacked correctional staff at Lo Wu Correctional Institution yesterday (September 19).

     At 4.33pm, the person in custody, who has drug abuse record and has been suffering from depression, suddenly turned emotional and attacked a correctional officer outside the dining hall. Staff at the scene at once tried to stop her. They subdued the person in custody by using OC foam.

     In the incident, three correctional officers and the assailant sustained minor injuries. The officers did not need to be transferred to a public hospital after receiving treatment from a medical officer at the centre hospital. After examination by a medical officer at the centre hospital, the assailant was sent to a public hospital for further checking due to emotional problem.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     The assailant was serving sentence for the offence of an assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
