Correctional officers stopped a male person in custody from hurting himself at Cape Collinson Correctional Institution today (October 15).
At 10.55am, the 15-year-old male person in custody suddenly became emotional during a staff interview and banged his head against a door. The officers at the scene immediately stopped him and sent him to the centre hospital for treatment. A clinical psychologist of the department will follow up on the case.
A spokesman for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department uses all possible measures to prevent people in its custody from attempting suicide or self-harm. These measures include administrative arrangements, the improvement of institution facilities, staff training and first aid services."
The person in custody was sentenced to the training centre for the offence of homosexual buggery with or by man under 16.
