The Correctional Services Department (CSD) has launched a new round of its recruitment exercise to recruit around 50 Officers, the Principal of the CSD Staff Training Institute, Mr Lee Kwok-po, said today (December 3). The deadline for application is December 16.
Mr Lee said the CSD strives to provide a safe custodial environment for persons in custody by maintaining discipline in correctional institutions. It also enhances stability and prosperity in Hong Kong by reducing crime through appropriate rehabilitation programmes as well as community education to enlist public support for re-integrating rehabilitated persons into society.
He added that the multifaceted work of the CSD includes divisional duties, security, health care, works and planning, rehabilitation and industries and vocational training. Hence, people with various professional backgrounds are welcome to join the department, develop their full potential and dedicate their efforts to achieve the CSD mission of being a guardian, rehabilitation facilitator and community educator for society.
Mr Lee said candidates are required to undergo four rounds of assessment including a physical fitness test, a written test, a group interview and a final interview. Candidates must pass the physical fitness test first before proceeding to other rounds of assessment. Therefore, he suggested that applicants should enhance their physical fitness through training, making reference to the video clips in the CSD website demonstrating the physical fitness test items. In addition, candidates should pay more attention to current affairs, especially those related to the department. Good communication and analytical skills are also essential.
He said new recruits undergo 26 weeks of residential training in the Staff Training Institute. The recruit training programme covers the laws of Hong Kong and academic subjects such as sociology, criminology, counselling and psychology. It also covers foot drills, tactical training, physical fitness training, self-defence, weapons training, first-aid training, helicopter training and emergency response training.
To meet daily operational needs, scenario training and simulation exercises are also provided for new recruits so that they can learn how to operate various types of security equipment and respond to emergency situations, Mr Lee said.
Further information about the entry requirements and other details on the post of Officer will be available on the CSD's website (www.csd.gov.hk).
