A female remand person in custody of Tai Lam Centre for Women was found committing suicide by hanging herself yesterday (December 12).
At 11.14pm, correctional officers discovered that the 39-year-old person in custody committed suicide by hanging herself inside the toilet of the centre hospital ward with her bra tied on the handrail of the toilet. The officers immediately called for reinforcement.
Reinforcing staff arrived and immediately provided first aid treatment to her and summoned ambulance. The remand person in custody was then sent to public hospital for rescue. She was certified dead at 12.29am today (December 13).
The Correctional Services Department has reported the matter to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court in due course.
The deceased had a history of drug abuse and was remanded for the offence of trafficking in a dangerous drug on December 11.
