The Bishop of Hong Kong, the Most Reverend John Tong, visited Stanley Prison and presided at a Christmas Mass today (December 25) to preach and share his faith with participating persons in custody.
The Assistant Commissioner (Operations) of the Correctional Services Department (CSD), Mr Woo Ying-ming; the Civil Secretary of the CSD, Miss Dora Fu; the Correctional Services Chaplain, Reverend Deacon Edwin Ng; the Chief Superintendent (Stanley Prison), Mr Kan Chi-shing; and a number of volunteers and Category A persons in custody participated at the Mass at the Category A Complex.
In addition, the Most Reverend Tong toured the Prison's Hospital and Special Unit and conveyed Christmas blessings and support to patients and persons in custody under separate confinement respectively.
The department caters for the religious needs of persons in custody by appointing a full-time Chaplain to co-ordinate the planning and provision of religious services, and liaising with different religious organisations and volunteers to pay visits to correctional institutions for religious services and events.
