A sick 78-year-old male person in custody at Stanley Prison died in a public hospital yesterday (February 13).
The person in custody was sentenced for the offence of wounding with intent on November 26, 2014. He was a person with chronic illnesses. He suffered from liver cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was admitted to the centre hospital for medical care and follow-up since his imprisonment.
He was sent to a public hospital for treatment on February 5 because of physical discomfort. During hospitalisation, his condition deteriorated and was certified dead at 6.01pm yesterday.
The Correctional Services Department has reported the case to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
