A sick 61-year-old male person in custody at Stanley Prison died in a public hospital yesterday (April 17).
The person in custody was sentenced for an offence of murder in September 1999. He suffered from chronic illnesses including renal and heart diseases and diabetes mellitus and required continuous medical care and follow-up. He was sent to a public hospital for treatment on April 5. During his stay in hospital his condition deteriorated and he was certified dead at 6pm yesterday.
The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
