A sick 61-year-old male person in custody at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre died in a public hospital today (September 26).
The person in custody was sentenced for the offence of trafficking in a dangerous drug on July 21. As he had a history of chronic drug abuse, arrangements were made for him to stay in the centre hospital for medical and follow-up care. He was sent to a public hospital for further treatment on July 23 because of severe drug withdrawal symptoms. During his stay in hospital, his condition deteriorated and he was certified dead at 10.56am today.
The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
