The Correctional Services Department (CSD) is committed to providing a secure, safe, humane, decent and healthy environment for persons in custody.
The CSD ensures that in accordance with the Prison Rules (Cap 234A), necessary and appropriate basic medical care is provided by resident Medical Officers from the Department of Health (DH) and correctional staff with nursing qualifications. Resident Medical Officers will, if necessary, refer cases to public hospitals for further treatment.
Medical specialists from the Hospital Authority and the DH also provide consultation and treatment to persons in custody concerned on a regular basis at correctional facilities.
If a person in custody requests medical treatment beyond the scope of existing medical care, the CSD will consider the request on a case-by-case basis having taken into account the advice of the resident Medical Officers who will also seek the advice of medical specialists or other medical professionals as and when required.
The CSD would not comment on any individual case.
