Visitor attacks Correctional Officer at Tai Lam Correctional Institution

     A 54-year-old male visitor attacked correctional officer at visitor registration area of Tai Lam Correctional Institution today (January 8).

     During visit registration at 12.30pm, as the visitor was not on the approved visitor list of the concerned person in custody, he was told that the visit would be arranged until his identity was confirmed. While waiting for confirmation, he suddenly turned emotional and assaulted a correctional officer with hand. The staff at scene immediately shouted to stop him.

     One correctional officer sustained minor injuries over his chest. After examination and treatment provided by the medical officer at the centre hospital, he did not need to be referred to a public hospital.

     The Correctional Services Department has referred the incident to the Police for investigation.
