Correctional officers stopped a remand person in custody assaulting another remand person in custody and an officer at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (August 1).
At 2.27am, a 32-year-old male remand person in custody suddenly attacked a 35-year-old male remand person in custody in the centre hospital. The officer at the scene immediately stopped the assailant and called for reinforcement. Meanwhile, the assailant also attacked the officer and thereafter became more emotionally unstable. The officer at the scene used OC foam to subdue him after repeated warnings were ignored.
The victim sustained injuries to his face and shoulder while the officer's face was injured and the assailant sustained injuries to his face and neck. After examination and treatment by the medical officer in the centre hospital, the officer and the assailant were transferred to a public hospital for further treatment.
The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.
The assailant was remanded for the offence of possession of offensive weapon in public place.
