A sick 55-year-old male person in custody at Tung Tau Correctional Institution died yesterday (August 23) after admission to a public hospital.
The person in custody was sentenced on August 3, 2017, for the offence of theft. He had past history of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. On August 21, he was referred to a public hospital for treatment due to fever and abdominal colic. During hospitalisation, his condition deteriorated and he was certified dead at 6.07pm yesterday.
The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
