Person in custody attacks correctional officer at Shek Pik Prison

     A male person in custody attacked a correctional officer at Shek Pik Prison today (September 2).

     At about 10am, the 38-year-old person in custody disobeyed the order of staff in the Carpentry Workshop. The person in custody suddenly became emotional and attacked an officer with hand while the latter was handling the incident. The staff on scene immediately shouted to stop the assailant and called for reinforcement.

     The officer sustained minor injuries to his chest during the incident. After preliminary examination and treatment provided by the medical officer at the institution hospital, the officer was referred to a public hospital for further treatment. The assailant did not sustain any injury.

     The Correctional Services Department has reported the case to the Police for investigation.

     The assailant was sentenced for the offence of rape.
