CSD Sports Association to hold 65th Autumn Fair next Saturday

The Correctional Services Department (CSD) Sports Association will hold its 65th Autumn Fair at the football field adjacent to Stanley Prison next Saturday (November 4). Members of the public are welcome to attend. Admission is free.

The theme of this year's fair is "Hand in Hand, We Nurture our Community", highlighting the event's promotion of charity by uniting the power of CSD staff, business organisations, community bodies and members of the public.

An old-fashioned café called "Collinson Café" will be set up in the Theme Corner of the Fair. Members of the public will be able to enjoy chicken pies, walnut cakes, pineapple buns and other snacks made by persons in custody, who will put into practice the knowledge and skills they have gained from vocational training in food and beverage at Cape Collinson Correctional Institution. To nurture harmony in the community, people with intellectual disabilities, senior citizens and members of the ethnic minorities will be invited to the Fair to enjoy the food at Collinson Café. To enable visitors gain a better understanding about the Autumn Fair and its development, an exhibition entitled "Know More about Autumn Fair" will also be set up at the Theme Corner.

There will be booths selling items made by persons in custody including wooden furniture, potted plants, handicrafts and other items. As the CSD is committed to caring for and protecting the environment, environmentally friendly items have been made by persons in custody including flower pots, painted magnets made from recycled glass aggregate and concrete, and picnic chairs and geometric pen holders made from recycled wooden pallets. Through the efforts of CSD staff in showing persons in custody how to reuse and recycle, the CSD strives to contribute to the community.

Various organisations have been invited to perform at the Fair. The People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison will stage a gun show and a grand military band performance. Other performing groups will include a live band and a motorcycling team from the Civil Aid Service as well as an award-winning school cheering team. In addition, dragon and lion dance teams and a marching band formed by persons in custody from Cape Collision Correctional Institution, and guard dogs from the CSD Dog Unit, will demonstrate their skills for visitors.

The Autumn Fair, a large-scale and popular public event organised by the CSD Sports Association since 1953, is now in its 65th year. After deducting costs, the funds raised from sales and donations through various channels at the Fair will go to voluntary agencies. The Fair also provides opportunities for persons in custody to contribute to the community.

The Fair will be held at the football field adjacent to Stanley Prison (99 Tung Tau Wan Road) from 11am to 5pm on November 4.
