Correctional Officers stop person in custody attacking staff

     Correctional officers of Stanley Prison stopped a person in custody attacking an officer this evening (January 15).

     At 6.19pm, the 47-year-old male person in custody suddenly turned emotional and attacked a correctional officer with hand while the officer searching his cell. Officers at scene immediately stopped him. OC foam was used to subdue the person in custody after warnings were given in vain.

     The correctional officer and the assailant sustained minor injuries during the incident. After examination and treatment provided by the medical officer at the institution hospital, both of them did not need to be sent to public hospital.

     The Correctional Services Department has referred the incident to the Police for investigation.

     The assailant was sentenced to imprisonment for the offence of criminal intimidation.
