Correctional officers stop attempted escape

     Correctional officers at Hei Ling Chau Addiction Treatment Centre stopped a person in custody attempting to escape today (February 17).

     At about 1.45pm, a 52-year-old male person in custody suddenly dashed towards the beach and attempted to escape as he was being escorted by a correctional officer from the dining hall to the reception office. The officer immediately chased after him and called for reinforcement. The person in custody was soon subdued by officers. The officers and the person in custody did not sustain any injuries. The case has been referred to the Police for investigation.

     The person in custody was sentenced to undergo drug treatment at the institution for the offence of possession of a dangerous drug.

     Hei Ling Chau Addiction Treatment Centre is a minimum security correctional institution for detaining male adult persons in custody undergoing drug treatment.
