Correctional officers stop fighting among persons in custody

Correctional officers at Hei Ling Chau Correctional Institution stopped a fight among two persons in custody today (May 20).

At 7.33am today, two male persons in custody aged 37 and 26 engaged in a fight inside an exercise yard. An officer immediately called for reinforcement to stop the fight.

During the incident, one of the persons in custody sustained injury to his nose. He was referred to a public hospital for further treatment after examination and treatment by the institution Medical Officer. The other person in custody sustained injury to his hand. He did not need to be sent out to a public hospital after receiving medical examination and treatment.

The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

The two persons in custody were sentenced to imprisonment for the offences of trafficking in a dangerous drug and possession of offensive weapon in public place respectively.
