Officers of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) detected and prevented a man on remand from harming himself further with a towel strangling over his neck in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre (LCKRC)'s hospital at around 2pm today (October 31).
The inmate was then sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for examination and treatment. He was conscious and sustained red marks on his neck. He will be attended by the department's clinical psychologist for psychological assessment.
A spokesperson for the CSD said, "The department has been using all possible measures to prevent people in its custody from attempting suicides or self-harm. The measures include administrative arrangements, improvement of institution facilities, staff training and first aid service."
The 26-year-old inmate was admitted to LCKRC on October 27 on a charge of possession of goods with forged trade marks. He claimed to be worried about the prosecution against him.
