Press Release

Correctional officers subdue violent prisoner

A staff member at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre was attacked by an inmate yesterday (November 6).

At around 5.30pm yesterday, the inmate refused to get out of a vehicle when he was escorted back to the centre from Queen Elizabeth Hospital after treatment. He suddenly attacked an Assistant Officer II (AOII) with his pair of handcuffs. He was subdued and taken to the centre hospital for a check-up.

In the centre hospital, the inmate, however, refused to follow instructions again and suddenly became emotionally unstable. He began yelling and attempted to dash toward a nursing staff member. After warnings were given to him in vain, OC foam was applied against him and he was subsequently subdued.

During the incident, the AOII sustained head injury. He was sent to Princess Margaret Hospital for medical treatment.

The case was reported to the Police.
