The Correctional Services Department takes every measure to prevent the smuggling of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there, a department spokesperson said today (January 28).
"The department is committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody," the spokesperson said.
The comments followed a case of suspected dangerous drug seizure from the luggage of an inmate.
The 24-year-old man was admitted to Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre yesterday (January 27) for breach of Supervision Order under the Drug Addiction Treatment Centres Ordinance.
During admission search, officers found in his luggage a total of eight tablets of suspected dangerous drugs.
The case has been reported to the Police.
There were 125 seizures of dangerous drugs by end of 2011, with the seizures mainly made in the reception centres.
