Four staff members of Correctional Services Department were injured when they subdued an inmate who was trying to resist a routine search of his cell at Stanley Prison around noon yesterday (February 18).
The inmate, aged 35, reacted violently when he was informed of the intended search and damaged some furniture inside his cell.
He attacked an officer of the search team who was entering the cell to calm him down. Despite repeated warnings, the inmate continued to act violently. In order to prevent injury to the inmate and staff, members of the search team had to apply minimal force and OC foam to subdue the inmate.
The injured officers and the inmate were given medical treatment at the centre hospital inside the prison.
The case has been reported to Police for investigation.
