Staff members of the Correctional Services Department were injured this morning (February 22) when they subdued an inmate at Stanley Prison.
The inmate, aged 35, swore and spat at correctional staff when they inspected his cell. He also reacted violently by throwing furniture.
Despite repeated warnings from staff, the inmate continued to act violently. In order to prevent the inmate from hurting himself, staff had to enter his cell and eventually applied minimal force and OC foam to subdue the inmate. Both the staff and the inmate sustained minor injuries.
As the inmate has a record of violence, further arrangements will be made for him to attend psychiatric assessment and treatment.
The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.
