Correctional officers successfully prevent smuggling of dangerous drugs

    

     Officers of the Correctional Services Department seized suspected dangerous drugs from an inmate at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre and successfully prevented the smuggling of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions, a department spokesperson said today (February 26).

     The spokesperson pointed out that the 35-year-old man was admitted to Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre at about 11.30am today for breach of Supervision Order under Drug Addiction Treatment Centres Ordinance.

     During admission search, officers found in his shoe a total of five tablets of suspected dangerous drugs.

     The case has been reported to the Police.

     The spokesperson said, "The department takes every measure to prevent the smuggling of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to prevent their presence there. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     There were 125 seizures of dangerous drugs in 2011 and 17 up to February 25 this year, with the seizures mainly made in reception centres.
