A spokesman for Correctional Services Department said today (April 25) that correctional officers had stopped an attempt to smuggle suspected dangerous drugs into the Lai King Correctional Institution after seizing suspected dangerous drugs from the property of an inmate yesterday
The 16-year-old female had been remanded in the institution on a charge of robbery.
During a security check, officers found in her property two small plastic bags of suspected dangerous drugs and suspected inhaling instrument.
The CSD spokesperson said, "With effective mechanism to collect intelligence, the department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."
The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.
There have been 62 seizures of dangerous drugs this year to date. Most seizures were made in reception centres.
