Staff members of the Correctional Services Department were injured when they subdued an inmate at Stanley Prison (SP) yesterday (July 11).
The male inmate, who has a record of violence and psychiatric problems, turned hostile when he was told to attend a psychiatric assessment at Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre. Despite repeated warnings, he refused to leave his cell. Staff had to use minimal force to subdue him and effect his removal. Two officers and the inmate sustained minor injuries and were treated accordingly.
The inmate, aged 36, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment in November 2000.
