Four staff members of the Correctional Services Department were injured when they subdued an inmate at Stanley Prison this afternoon (July 12).
The inmate, aged 35, spitted at correctional staff through the gate when they delivered meal to his cell. He refused to take the meal and reacted violently by hitting his head against the wall.
In order to prevent the inmate from hurting himself, correctional services officers had to enter his cell immediately to subdue him. Both the officers and the inmate sustained minor injuries during the incident. They received medical treatment afterwards.
The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.
