A Correctional Services Department (CSD) staff stopped a suicide attempt by an inmate on remand at Tai Lam Centre for Women (TLCW) today (July 21).
The 45-year-old inmate was found hanging herself with her shirt inside the dormitory around 1am. Following interception, the officer immediately gave her first aid treatment at the scene. The female inmate was then sent to a government hospital for further examination and treatment.
A CSD spokesperson said, "The department has been using all possible measures to prevent people in its custody from attempting suicide or self-harm. The measures include administrative arrangements, improvement of institution facilities, staff training and first aid services."
The inmate was remanded to TLCW on July 6 on a charge of managing a vice establishment.
