Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, at a media session at Central Government Offices, Tamar, after the Fight Crime Committee meeting this afternoon (September 27):
Reporter: On the drug-related seizures, what do you attribute that rise?
Secretary for Security: For the first eight months of this year, we have seized a substantial amount of drugs. This is attributed to the efforts done by our law enforcement agencies through intelligence gathering and co-operation with their overseas counterparts. The vast majority of these seizures were made at the entry and exit points of Hong Kong, in particular, at our cargo terminals, which indicates that the collection of intelligence is a very useful tool in the interception of drugs in Hong Kong. As we all know that, drugs are shipped into Hong Kong and it is very important that we guard ourselves at these check points, entry points, so that we can timely intercept these drugs.
