Correctional officers stop inmate from self-harm Correctional officers stopped an inmate from harming himself in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (October 25). At about 10.30am, a correctional officer on duty found the 40-year-old male inmate sustained minor head injury after jumping from a 1-metre high wash basin in the centre hospital. The inmate was conscious at that time. The officers immediately stopped him from further harming himself. After examination and treatment by a medical officer, the inmate was transferred to a government hospital for further treatment. The inmate will receive further assessment at Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre later. A spokesman for the department said, "The department has been using all possible measures to prevent people in its custody from attempting suicide or self-harm. These measures include administrative arrangements, improvement of institution facilities, staff training and first aid services."
