An inmate attacked Correctional Services staff causing injuries to three officers at Stanley Prison today (January 24).
At about 1.30pm, the male inmate, aged 34, was charged with a disciplinary offence and turned emotional. He punched the face of an officer interviewing him.
Two other officers at the spot stopped the inmate immediately but encountered serious resistance. The three officers subsequently subdued him with the use of OC foam.
The three officers and the inmate sustained injuries during the incident and were given medical treatment at the centre hospital. Two of the officers and the inmate were transferred to a public hospital for further medical examination.
The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.
The inmate was serving life imprisonment for murder.
