Correctional services officers stopped a remand inmate from hurting himself in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre yesterday(March 15).
At around 10.45am, an officer found the 34-year-old male remand inmate, who looked suspicious, tied an uniform shirt on the grille gate of his cell and some redness was found on his neck. The officer stopped the remand inmate immediately and sent him to the centre hospital for medical treatment. The inmate was later transferred to Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre for further assessment.
A spokesman for the department said, "The department uses all possible measures to prevent people in its custody from attempting suicide or self-harm. These measures include administrative arrangements, the improvement of institution facilities, staff training and first aid services."
The remand was charged with an offence relating to conspiracy.
